Does linux have an application to answer phone calls from landline or cellphones to the desktop?

Hi

I'm curious if there is an application similar to what call centers use for answering inbound calls from a PC. I've never used skype in my life but I heard it can do skype to skype calling but can skype handle landline/mobile inbound and outbound calling?

Thanks

It was a common task to use a fax/modem/call type device in computers. Not all fax/modems did support the call feature. Those apps might still work.

Skype can do outbound to POTS but it doesn't interact with a POTS line that I know of.

You kind of have two issues going on. To get the computer to work with a POTS line you could look into the pbx sort of software maybe too.

Some old laws on the books about taking voice calls and re-transmitting them over IP by the way I think. Remember voice calls are legally protected over POTS lines in most countries. They are not fully protected over other means.

thanks jefro for the reply

I found an app called SFLphone in my PClinuxOS repos, it's a SIP/IAX2 compatible enterprise-class software phone. It can do inbound and outbound calling to PCs, POTS and mobile phones. To make this possible I am using the services of localphone.com.

Localphone allows free PC to PC calling, but outgoing calls to POTS and mobile phones is not, the rates are very cheap and not that bad. You can also receive calls from POTS and mobile devices by buying an DID or incoming number for a small fee.

Stuff like this is neat. https://secure.dslreports.com/forum/...nd-a-MagicJack

Hi jefro, good article but it's dated i.e 2009-09-05.

I am still using google voice right now until May because google is discontinuing the service which is why I have to seek alternatives to do inbound and outbound calling from the PC and enter data into a database as I communicate with callers.

I'm still using my mobile phone of course when I'm not at the PC

You are right about one thing, there are many voip providers out there from doing my research.

Thanks again
