Does libraries need to be recompiled after kernel upgrade?

Just wondering after I upgraded kernel image, do i need to recompile those libraries under /lib directory, or not necessary? How do i know they are compiled against specific kernel version?

Apart from set grub and etc, what else need to be done after kernel upgrade? This is in general, not distribution specific. Thanks.

AFAIK, only kernel modules that aren't included in the kernel itself need recompiling after building or installing a new kernel. For me, I have to rebuild the Nvidia blob and LIRC but that's it.

In 3 years, I haven't once needed to recompile a single library after a kernel upgrade.

Yes, that would be correct, and would mostly be confined to special hardware drivers that are required to make a device work properly with Linux, the "nVidia blob" being the perfect example.

Cheers
