DNS Zone x-fer - From one zone to another / Debian 3.1 + BIND9

Hello all,

Here is my situation: My company has field offices all over the US with oddball names. They have finally decided to rename them according to region and use a bit of standardization. Along with this, i have been asked to make the changes to these names in my dns records to match. Here is an example:

ess.12345.com needs to be esg-hun.12345.com

san-lean.12345.com needs to be wsg-san.12345.com

atl-law.12345.com needs to be abn-atl.12345.com

The naming scheme is our 3 letter project designation then the first 3 letters of the city location.

I am running Debian Sarge 3.1 with BIND 9. I have set up many of our newer offices with their respective dns zones, but never needed to pull all zone info from one existing office into a new zone file with the correct name. From what i understand, i will need to create the new zone files, lower the ttl, and after that, i am not really sure. I do not want to down an entire field office for an extended time. Can anyone help to fill in the blanks on this procedure?

Thank you all in advance for your time and effort.
