hey people,
I seem to be getting this crappy error:
[root@venus /etc]# dmesg | grep hdc

this is the lovely RH 7.1 os
is there a way to fix this or disable dma or somthing...
it takes a while to boot while it waits for timeout on this thing.. anyt reccomendations are appreciated!

If you rebuild your kernel there is an option for 'Use DMA by default' if you turn that off it should be the trick. Otherwise you needs to issue a 'hdparm -d 0 /dev/hdX' however you will need to do this after the error messages are produced so it won't be much use!

If you can't find the option tell me what kernel you're using (2.2 or 2.4) and I will have a look for you.

hdparm is you friend and can give you some *great* performance increase. Have a look on some of the Linux tuning sites for more details.
