Dma in Gentoo

Hi, I'm having a little trouble getting DMA on in my Gentoo-box.

hdparm -d1 /dev/hda
Quote:
/dev/hda:
setting using_dma to 1
HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
Isn't the drivers for the ide-controller (VIA VT82C586A) loaded or what?

Detailed instructions please if someone can, I'm new to this

Hmm...so are you root when issuing that command? And when building your kernel, did you include the VIA IDE driver?

Configure the new kernel, make bzImage, make modules, make modules_install (move the old modules directory out of the way if you're using the same kernel version as before). Then copy the new kernel image to /boot, name it as you wish (vmlinuz-2.4.24-myown2 or whatever) and update your bootloader. Reboot.
