Display problem Ubuntu 7.04
Hi. I am using Ubuntu 7.04 which was working very well and I have all but stopped using Windows. However I tried to download and install Flightgear which worked very jerkily!. At some point after exiting I got a message about restricted drivers to install which I thought I was supposed to do. Since then my GUI has gone and I can only start Ubuntu in safe-mode to get the command line. However, if I place the original live disk in I have a GUI working. I have obviously screwed up the display drivers but am not good enough with basic knowledege to use the command line to transfer the working set-up from the live disk to the hard drive to restore the situation. Can anybody please help? Thanking "anybody" in anticipation

Not sure, but
... if you have a prompt, and network access, you could try sudo apt-get update, and sudo apt-get upgrade. Occasionally that automatically cleans things up for me for whatever reason.

You can try sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg to fix the issue.
If that does not solve it, please post the sections serverlayout, device, monitor and screen of /etc/X11/xorg.conf and let us know make and model of the vido card and monitor. |
