display on LCD monitor shifted switching Windows to/from Linux
 

I have a Windows and Linux dual boot system. Everytime I switch from one OS to another, the display shifted horizontally on my LCD monitor. Say, I'm in Windows and the 1024x768 display is centered and fills the entire screen neatly. When I booted into Linux, the display is still the same resolution and physical size but moved, or shifted, to the right. I have to use the monitor controls to move the display to the left to make it center on the monitor. This is starting to annoy me. Is there a setting, i.e. config file, somewhere that I can use to fix this problem? Thanks for any help.

I had that issue, however after a while the only time its shifted is on the grub menu. Everything else is always fine.

Try xvidtune it might work. man xvidtune to see how to use it.

Thanks, mysterio. That worked beautifully. I just REALLY wish there is a lookup function out there somewhere for newbies like myself that would take a description of a problem and return a command/program/tool that can be used fo fix the problem. I googled but gave up after several hours wading through dozens (if not hundreds) of web pages.

Umm, slight problem: the settings don't hold. That is, when I booted out of Linux to Windows, the display is still centered. When I booted out of Windows back to Linux, the display is now shifted right and I have recentered it. Is there a config file somewhere to hold my manual settings and automatically apply them whenever I log in?
