Disable automatic updates/balloon tips with TERMINAL

Hey everyone,

I'm writing a small piece of software, and I need to disable automatic updates and any balloon tips that might somehow occur via terminal and without the GUI. (I need to do all this with a script) Obviously the larger piece of the software takes up the entire window and we don't want it interrupted by any balloon tips or anything similar. I need to do this for Redhat, CentOS, and Ubuntu.

Does anyone know the command(s) that I would use? I can't seem to find anything that's not GUI related when it comes to Google
and searching the forum..

Thanks!
