so wait I have Wine so I don't need to install Direct X or anything? becuase one of the games I want to play (Legends of Might and Magic by 3DO) says it requires Direct X 8. I tried playing it but it just turned my screen black and changed the resolution to like rrealllly super huge

No, he's saying you need to use WineX, rather than WINE.

compu73rg33k 02-26-2004 10:21 AM

wait wtf you have to PAY for it?!?!

There is a CVS version, but you have to compile that and it might not support the software you are trying to run. The paid-for version includes support for some copy protection schemes (not all unfortunately).

If you think paying for it is a problem, keep in mind that there are 80+ games that are supported at a 4 out of 5 or better (which means slight problems or annoyances), and that is the price of about 3/4 of the average games for 3-6 mos. worth of updates.

Not all software is free in Linux. I've bought 3 distros, 8+ native games, and WineX for my windoze games. If you add it up I've probably spent $350 or better on Linux stuff (not including hardware). If you don't like spending money,... you can always duel boot with windoze XPee... that is if you own a license...
