have you made plans to do a new install with OpenSUSE 12.2
opensuse11.4 has ONLY 19 DAYS of life left
it will hit it's END OF LIFE very very soon
http://en.opensuse.org/Lifetime
is this a single boot ?
or a dual boot with MS windows
you can always select the last kernel from the boot menu
use the down arrows to select the last kernel
there are 3 listed
along with a "failsafe" and "desktop"
from you stating "floppy" is the ONLY boot option
that sounds like a bios issue
a wild guess
dual boot with two drives win7 on one disk
suse on the second and the drive order is mixed up in the bios
this is causing grub to write the WRONG disk numbers to the grub config
(sda1 VS sdb1)
