Diablo and WINE

I am interested in running DII LOD on my RH9 box...

Which version of Win Emu should I invest time into?

thanks:Pengy:

Check the apps db, apps.winehq.com

If it's a Direct3D game you will probably need WineX.

Thans I will give that a try... thanks again.

I'm running plain old Diablo2 with Winex 2.2...

but I've been reading the forums at transgaming.com and seems quite a few people do have it running with the LOD expansion on it.

I just wish I had the cash to dish out for another subscription to get version 3.0. :(

I had D2X running in plain old Wine (not WineX), not Direct3D mode of course... there is a hacked (no-CD) executable you can get ahold of that makes it possible. Sorry, can't remember where I got it... seems there was a link from the application datbase on winehq, though.

But it can be done without WineX :)

ok... so what is the difference beween Wine and WineX? is it D3D?
What were the most common issues that you saw running any win game in Wine?
Especcially with D2LOD...

Thanks again,

My understanding is that WineX is a branch of Wine development specially tailored towards running games. They have much better (though proprietary) D3D support (D3D is just now appearing in the official Wine development tree, and isn't very usable yet).

I am not much of a gamer, so I don't know what any of the common issues are. D2LOD is about the only Windows game I've played with any regularity, and it works great (non-d3d mode) in the official Wine version. It's supposed to be basically perfect in WineX.

Thanks for the help...

wapcaplet 04-29-2003 06:13 PM

I'm afraid I haven't used bnet at all :) I'm more of a single-player kinda guy.
