detecting card reader problem on laptop

Hi,
I have been running linux on and off for a while now and think its great however i have noticed that it never seems to detect my laptop internal card reader. I have also noticed that this seems to be a common problem - is there a fix. Any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers.

What card reader do you have (brand/model...) and what distro and/or whar version of linux kernel are you using? If you are using a distro with a kernel older than 2.6.17 then it is normal that it doesn't detect it. SD/MMC drivers for linux exist since kernel 2.6.17, afaik.

P.S.: This is the wrong section to post questions about hardware. This section is about software. Moderators, please move it.

To litle information, you need to give us at least:
Your linux kernel: uname -a
Your hardware: lspci -nn
Which distribution? Name and version:
Diagnostics what happen/not happends when you do something and what you want it to happen.
