desktop terminal...
I am running gnome + fedora. I know I can access the terminal through redhat > system tools > terminal, but how do I get it on the deskop like the guy has it in this screenshot ?, without window manager decorations ?

Right click on the desktop and select "Create Launcher".
Give it a name ("term" or whatever you want), select an icon, and put in the command. If you don't know what terminal-emulator you want to use, put "gnome-terminal" for the command. Otherwise use whatever you want. |
oh, sorry, I meant the actual terminal itself - in blue text at the bottom left, and in green text, at the bottom right.

It's all about the right options. Check the man for your terminal. For example, if you're using Eterm it would look something like that:
/usr/bin/Eterm -Ox --shade 0 --scrollbar off -f green --buttonbar 0 --font-fx none |
Ive got it all, apart from hiding the window manager decorations..

I'm not sure about the terminal on the desktop, but the green text at the lower right is root-tail (or one of its clones). It's a great program that shows entries to any or all of your logs, and it's intended to run on your desktop background without window decorations.
Google for it. Enjoy! --- Cerbere |
