Simple question !

Are there any Desktop Publishing programs for Linux?

Simple answer.

Yes.

Open Office has one.

There's also something called Scribus which looks good.

If your looking for word processing then ABI word is very good.

Openoffice has one?
I have a copy of openoffice.org which came with suse linux but that seems to have only
calc, math ,writer, impress and draw!

I heard that somethings were stripped from this version was the publisher one?

I have never seen anything WYSIWYG DTP for linux. Your talking about Quark Express (that's what it used to be called when I worked with DTP systems anyway).

If your company / department is seriously thinking of open source, consider the packages LaTeX, TeX, LyX, TeTeX and TeXemacs.

The most interesting one of the editors, LyX is a WYSIWYM. "What you see is what you mean"(!) TeX and LaTeX are described as typesetting languages.

Sure will. Hopefully I will get time to test how well it works.

It will export to a PDF file. And from what I was reading you can set Bookmarks, which is something I have been trying to do with linux for a while now.

What's the quality like? I've used dvipdfm, ps2pdf (awful) and a few other wacky solutions to the PDF problem but the results have been less than encouraging, especially when used with Adobe Acrobat (which is what most people use to view PDFs).

I'd guess it uses ps2pdf, unless they developed their own filter. I think I'm gonna get this app myself and give it a twirl - cheers.

Would draw not be what you're looking for?

Ok, took off early from work today. So after taking care of some business I had some time to play around with Scribus.

After configuring Scribus and telling it where my TrueType Fonts are I did a test and exported it to a PDF. Just some text with a graphic. I tested viewing it with Adobe Reader 4.0 and it came out very good.

I have been looking for a good Desktop Publishing program for Linux. Looks like I have found one.

By the way, I'm using Version 0.9.3
