Desinstalling RH 8.0 crashed the PC... HELP !

Hi all,

I have a PC with Win XP and Linux RH 8.0 as a dual boot (using gruber).

I tried to desinstall Linux using Partition Magic and deleting the partition on which Linux was installed. Unfortunately, when I reboot, I get a blank screen with "GRUB" written on it.

It seems that deleting the Linux partition did not do delete the GRUB and that GRUB is trying to read something not available anymore.

I have lots of data on the HD and would hate to have to reformat everything.

What can I do (I am a newbie) to get back to a Win XP config only ?

PS : For those asking why I desinstall Linux, I have to mention that as a newbie, I am still addicted to Linux, and it is installed on my 3 PCs, but my parents did not like it, so I had to desinstall it from their PC.... No offense to the forum ;)

Use a Rescue Disk (if you don't have one, make one from one of your other machines) and use fixmbr. Either that or find a non-NT (ie Win 98) fdisk and use it to issue this command:

fdisk /mbr

Put in your XP setup disc.. go into (Repair) Recovery Console.. and type fixmbr, that should get rid of grub and bring you back to XP's loader.

Thank you very much, I just followed what you said BxBoy and it worked flawlessly. You saved me a few tens of hours of work ... Best regards.
