Dependencies with apt-get and MySQL 4.0

Hi All,

I recenctly upgraded my mysql distribution to v 4.0.....

Have been using yum for my installation etc, but decided I'd try apt-get because of the synaptic gui available. Trouble is, the system doesn't seem to recognise that MySQL is there already (I have a book which tells me that this can happen when you update MySQL). When I try to install perl-DBD-MySQL it doesn't work with apt because of the dependency issue with MySQL, so I forced installation with rpm and --nodeps.

But now apt thinks it has a 'broken' package. Is there a way to make apt (via synaptic) ignore a particular dependency? Or alternatively, make the system 'aware' of the new MySQL?

Cheers,

J
