default web browser in Ximian Evolution
 

On Red Hat 9, I removed Mozilla 1.2 and installed 1.6. Everything's fine except that I don't know how to get Ximian Evolution to open Mozilla when I click on a link in an email. Must be a simple configuration file somewhere, but I haven't a clue what it would be and can't find anything about it in Evolution's help.

You set that option in the control center
KDE Components/File Associations, expand "text" and select html.
You can select what application you want to use for the html protocol.

It should be something similar for Gnome, think I read something about Document Handlers or something like that but as I use KDE I'm not quite sure about that.

you have to set the default browser for evolution in gnome-default-applications-properties.
have a look at http://www.mail-archive.com/evolutio.../msg06433.html and follow the steps (it might be slightly different if you use evo 1.2, browse into evolution mailing list).

Yes set it with gnomecc (or gnome-control-panel .. not sure what the app name is on each distro.

Well, I'm making progress. With the suggestion of the link to another post somewhere, I got the setting to make links open in Mozilla - as long as I have Mozilla open already. This was done by using the Preferences-Preferred Applications - Browser. I still can't get Evolution to open up Mozilla by clicking a link in an email in Evolution. I think I'm running up against a configuration issue that has to do with the fact that I installed the binary of Mozilla 1.6 rather than an RPM. There are some settings that just don't get adjusted. If I had any idea of what my default path was I might be able to resolve a number of minor glitches by putting a symbolic link to Mozilla 1.6 in the path, but I haven't been able to figure out how to find out what my path is.

I like LInux, but I have a long ways to go in figuring out the details.
