Debian Woody floppy install - No (g)cc available

Hi,

I have an old laptop here, with about 300 mb disk space, and I want to use it for Debian 3.0.
I've installed the floppydisk version of 20 base disks, and the thing works.
However, I can't install anything on it, since I don't seem to have a c compiler on the machine.
I've tried downloading a gcc compiler, but while extracting the files, the disk is full...
So how can I get a c compiler on my machine, that is kind of small, but still capable of doing most of the standard things?
It runs kernel 2.2.20

Thanks for the help.

Roy

You could try tcc (Tiny C Compiler) it's about 413kb download. Here's the link.

Ok, thanks.
I've tried it, and it looks like it is a little bit more alive (my system),
but I still get a lot of errors.
Now I am reading about cross compiling, and I have tried to compile gcc on my other system,
but now it seems that I can't do a make install on my woody, since I don't have a working make. (I need to compile a make with gcc...) So this is becoming something like the chicken and the egg...

So, what is the best way to cross compile gcc ? and binutils?
config.guess says my system is: i486-pc-linux-gnuoldld
