Debian Jessie - Trying to setup Notify-OSD

I have tried to install notify-osd on Debian Jessie, but I am unable to see notifications with it. I have installed libnotify-bin but it is still not working. Can anyone help me? It said that "org.Free desktop.Notifications" is already taken.

Open dconf-editor and navigate to org.freedesktop.notifications and check the options there.

You may be able to change it to use notify-osd -- I think GNOME is using it's own notification system that is over-riding your choice.

I'm in TinyCore ATM; I'll look at my jessie GNOME system later to check this out more.

It would probably help if you post exactly how you have tried to set up your notification system and all the relevant config files.

EDIT: In my GNOME desktop, just using `notify-send <text>` creates a pop-up just fine; please post the exact error message and any output produced when the command is run from a terminal.

There is no error (screenshot attached). The notification goes straight to the GNOME bottom bar (not sure what it is called).

To set up my notification system, I installed notify-osd and tried launching it. I really didn't do anything else, because I don't know how to approach setting it up.

I am not seeing an entry for "org.Free desktop.Notifications" as seen in the screenshot.

That's it -- it is working.

I'm not sure what else you were expecting...

I see exactly the same thing in my GNOME system: a notification at the bottom of the screen; surely that is exactly what you want?

I thought it would look like the Ubuntu popup bubble.
