debian , gnome and alsa..
I just installed debian (sarge) from a net-install cd and then many other aplications like gnome ,gaim,firefox,xmms... shortly the programs that i needed ,succesfully.
But not all of them ofcourse , so i wish someone can help..
The 1st problem i have is that after downloading alsa and running alsaconf twice(cant hear the sounds if i only do once ) , i could hear sounds.(which is ok).But after rebooting the system i can t hear anything so i again ran alsaconf twice and than i was able to hear the sounds again.(I guess the first one uninstalls the loaded sound modules and the second installs them again)I searched about the problem and learned that i ve to add modules to my kernel.Iam running 2.6.8-2-386 and did not compile it yet and dont want to if i can solve the problem without doing it.Actuallay , i dont know where to find that modules (if there are any) for my kernel which is as i said 2.6.8-2-386
Here are the messages that i get after running alsaconf :
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
alsaconf
Terminating processes: 4104 (failed: processes still using sound devices: 4234(gnome-settings-)).
/etc/init.d/alsa: Warning: Processes using sound devices: 4234(gnome-settings-).

Now ALSA is ready to use.
For adjustment of volumes, use your favorite mixer.

As you can see it says gnome-settings- make a problem after the boot and i dont know how to solve it.(new to debian , trying to learn... )
The 2nd problem is that i can reach my ntfs partitions from a user desktop.I got the " u r not authorized to see .. " error when i cllick the C or D partiton icon on my desktop.I tried to change the /etc/fstab file several times , could not make it work.Tried to use to chmod command after mounting the ntfs partitions , still no change.here is my fstab file ,hope that someone may help..
-------------------------------------------------------
# /etc/fstab: static file system information.

# <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
/dev/sda3 / ext3 defaults,errors=remount-ro 0 1

/dev/sda5 /mnt/data1 ext2 rw,user,auto 0 0
/dev/sda6 /mnt/D ntfs ro,user,auto 0 0
-----------------------------------------------------
(by the way , /mnt/data1 is my back up partition to install some stuff which has ext2 file system , and i can reach it from a user desktop)
So , i ll be glad to se some answers soon , thanks in advance..
