Debian and XBMC
 
I'm looking to update my XBMC due to a bug that is solved by installing a more modern version of XBMC on my computer, unfortunately, I don't know how to do that.

According to XBMC ( http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title...r_Linux#Debian ) I need to visit a webpage which has a load of .deb packages, but I have no idea what packages I actually need to install, or in what order as I normally let aptitude do it all for me.

Can anyone give me guidance or a how to?

I can't imagine anyone will be able to find a better guide than the page it already linked you to. Aside from not being in English (which is hardly a concern with a modern web browser like Chrome), it gives very clear guidance on how to use the packages.

Which bug is fixed? I ask because I use xbmc on my Debian installs also.

Timothy, the problem I have is dependencies for pretty much every add-on are looking for a different version to what I have. This wouldn't be a problem if I could uninstall those add-ons, but I can't. I've tried 'aptitude purge' but the problem remains, hence why I need a later version.

MS3FGX, thanks for the response, but I don't use Chrome and equally I don't know what it is you're getting at. I can see all the packages there, but I have no idea which I need or in which order, hence why I am asking the question.

it looks quite straightforward: you need to add the repo and make an update
I think you can follow this page: http://debian.oppserver.net/xbmc/, but if you have any questions about that I will gladly translate it or help you...

1. Can you tell us what verion of XBMC is currently installed on your LMDE box.
2. LMDE is a "rolling release" based on Debian Testing I believe. Do you regularly update your system?
3, I'm running XBMC on Debian Wheezy (soon to be Jessie) and I have Version: 2:11.0~git20120510.82388d5-1. Is that the version you have? or is that the version you want?

The current version I have of XBMC is 3:12.0~git201210-dmo2 and my system is updated often.

I just want a later version of XBMC. The reason is I get the error as mentioned in this thread: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=150985 The solution there is to 'get an updated version' of XBMC.

I have no idea what the equivalent version of Mint Debian I am running, and likewise I'm not actually sure which commands I'm supposed to run from that page. Using the German I learnt at school, a few years ago now, I understand "oder" means "or", so from my basic understanding it's seems I shouldn't be running all those commands.

I don't think there is a "later version of XBMC than the one you have!?!? On the XBMC website we see an entry from 9 April 2013

Well, updating to 12.2 would be more recent than 12.0. Can anyone advise which commands I would use or what the difference is between the commands listed? According to /etc/debian_version I have wheezy/sid.
