Question Debain 5.0

I downloaded debain 5.0 on a computer and like a dummy I did not write down what I was using for passwords. There was a icon on the left hand bottom corner that I hit on the log in page that took me to a gray blueish screen where there is an "X" in the middle of screen that I can move with my mouse.no matter how many times I reboot I get this screen How do I get back to log-in page or do I start over and re- install?

You can use this to reset your root password.

If you also want to reset your user password, after you do passwd and enter your root password twice, you can do passwd username to reset your user password (replace username w/ your actual username, like joe).

What you are seeing is (probably) a running, but not yet configured X-Server - the ground of the graphical environment.
Some pieces seem to be missing.
You will get no prompts for username/passwords there.

Try pressing CTRL+ALT+F1 (or any of F2 through F6 instead of F1) and you should be at a console where you are prompted for username and password.
Given that you don't know the name or the password it might be easier to file it under "learning experience" and start over with the installation - it should not take too long from what I recall and I suppose there is not yet any important data that would need to be recovered(?)

Well I have tied both ideas and so far no luck. When I re-enter a new password it takes it and I get a "Tokens are busy now" and will not set my new password. This is fun I have not done any programing since I had a commadore 64,and a Trs80 Coco back in the early '80s. Is there a way to boot the hard drive on another Computer? I used the "Say goodbye to Microsoft" web site and over-wrote the hard drive.
