Question dash every time i hit enter (carriage return) in gnome (rh 9)

Every time I hit enter in gnome for rh9 (whether it be in mozilla, terminal, nautilus, etc. etc.) in stead of justa new line, it starts off the break with a dash. As you can understand this would be frustrating when trying to write code or execute commands.
This is what i see when I hold down enter

I too have encountered this same error in GNOME in RH all versions I have used. (7.3 and 9). I generally use KDE, so I have not thought of solving this, but am interested in knowing whether this is a bug or hardware realted problem.
