Damn Small Linux is Debian based so you should not have problems with apt-get. Just add the proper repositories to /etc/apt/sources.list, run 'apt-get update' and then 'apt-get install kde' or 'apt-get install gnome'. You'll have to find the lines to add to sources.list by yourself though, I don't know where to find them, but I hope this helps.
