cvs server connection refused

I am trying to set up a cvs server on my server called trashbox. Everything seems to be set up correctly. Both machines have libranet on them. This is what I get when I try to log on though, any ideas where I went wrong?

$ cvs -d server:gerard@trashbox:/home/cvs/rep login
Logging in to server:gerard@trashbox:2401/home/cvs/rep
CVS password:
cvs [login aborted]: reading from server: Connection reset by peer
