Customizing Grub boot loader

I am trying to find a way to have a graphical picture when the grub boot loader launches. In the file for grub I have the path to the pic I want but it comes up in monochrome (blah)

Does anyone know where I can find an answere or have one pertaining to customizing this grub file ????

If you look in

info grub

the instructions say that the startup splash screen MUST be 640 x 480 and have 14 colours only. This is easy to do in gimp. Image -> mode -> indexed-> 14 colours.

I have a nice beach scene

I do not have 'info' tool installed - could you please direct me to online documentation about this? Sounds very interesting, thanks.
