cursor icon problem

I have a situation with my RH9 Gnome box mouse cursor.

Please forgive my terminology, I'll try to be as descriptive as possible.

The mouse icon has at least two modes. The normal mode icon is a black arrow. In some applications, the other mode shows up as a vertical I-beam. However, in other apps, such as my pdf viewer, it shows up as a black box speckled with white.

I'm sure this is a self-inflicted wound, but I don't exactly remember where I could change the mouse cursor in that second mode.

I know in Winders (or Windoze, as many call it here), you can program a rollover change in the mouse icon properties. That looks to be what has happened here, but the icon it changes to is a nuisance.

As ususal, thanking you in advance for your help.

Regards,

Bill

Since Redhat 9 uses XFree86 4.3, it also uses the new animated, alpha-transparent cursor themes new to that version. However, programs that don't use the GNOME methods of drawing their interface may use older cursors. The PDF viewing program you are using is most likely XPDF (right?). Try using gpdf. It is a standard GNOME application, and should therefore blend better with the rest of your interface. As far as the line cursor, I think you're referring to the cursor when it goes over text. This may seem out of place because you are using an older version of openoffice. You could upgrade. Try a GNOME program like Abiword to see how that looks.
