cupsd can not start

I have just reinstall centos 4.2. When i tried to start cupsd using /etc/init.d/cups start, i get the following error:
Starting cups: cupsd: Child exited with status 98!
How can i fix it?

There might be some more information in /var/log/messages, /var/log/syslog, /var/log/cups/access_log or /var/log/cups/error_log. Can you have a look and post any extra info that you find please?

The lastest supported kernel from centos update repo is 2.6.9-34. When i update my system i did:
yum --enablerepo=centosplus --disablerepo=update install kernel
the kernel 2.6.9- was installed(i need this for my TV card)
Then, i use:
yum --exclude=kernel --exclude=kernel-devel update (this to prevent update kernel 2.3.4 from centos update repo)
As a result, the newest kernel has not been updated but all other packages had. When i tried to boot from kernel 2.6.6-, cups can not start. However, when i install the kernel 2.6.9-34, cups can start without problem. Is there anyway to roll back all the packages that can run with old kernel?
