CUPS unable to print. CUPS runs gs and libgs8 shows segfault in /var/log/messages
On 12.7.2010 I did the last update of packages for lenny amd64 with aptitude and now CUPS is unable to print (blank pages). CUPS runs gs to print and the library libgs8 shows segmentation fault in the /var/log/messages:
"Jul 13 14:28:13 ianthe kernel: [ 8819.083526] gs: segfault at ffffffffd659c9c8 ip 7f26dbe7849c sp 7fffe49d2430 error 4 in libgs.so.8.62[7f26dbc33000+4d2000]"
In addition, I get the message
"hpijs: unable to read client data err=-2".
Version of hpijs and hplip is 2.8.6.b-4
I'm using HP LaserJet P2015 Series. Printer Driver: HP LaserJet p2015dn series Foomatic/hpijs, hpijs 2.8.6b
IMPORTANT: before that last update with aptitude, printing was working pertectly (since lenny amd64 Installation July 2009)
Thanks in advance

I'm using the Laserjet P1005, and it uses foo2zjs, and runs very well. The help is excellent on site. That integrates itself with hotplug, cups etc.
I might try that. I was also thinking of configuring the printer in KDE so that if doesn't use gs, which seems to give the problem now. Did you configure foo2zjs to be used by the printer in the control center of KDE or Gnome? I'll check the site.
However, I'm puzzled because I never had a printing problem with HP and Debian CUPS, either in the past using etch for i386 and or recently using lenny for amd64. The regular update with aptitude seems to have changed it now. I wonder if a next update soon will fix some library (eg libgs8) which is giving me probmels.
The problem is actually the strange language thiose printers speak. I configured that exactly as the package told me to.i.e.
./getweb P1005 # which gets the firmware
make install-hotplug # which sets it up to download the firmware every time you plug it in/switch it on.
It shows as a system priinter, but I wouldn't use kde, so I can't help you there. They have forums
I'll try it today later at work, which is where I have the problem.
In any case, it will be a good idea to make CUPS not use gs for a while so that I can print more than blank pages again :-)
I'll try foo2zjs!
It's probably a bug. You should run reportbug, and report it.
Yes, I think that as well. I reported it with reportbug 3 days ago. Hope to get an answer soon.
