Cups/Ghostscript Problem
I'm trying to print from my debian computer to a Windows XP computer that is connected to my HP Deskjet 722C printer (using samba and cups)
I am installing the printer thru lpadmin -p OfficePrinter -v smb://MSHOME/David@OFFICE/Printer2 -P /root/HP-DeskJet_722C-pnm2ppa.ppd I enable it in the KDE printer manager. If I print a test page it says it goes thru, and nothing prints. I get this error in the log: I [08/Jun/2005:14:55:51 -0700] Job 5 queued on 'OfficePrinter' by 'root'. I [08/Jun/2005:14:55:51 -0700] Started filter /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstops (PID 4076) for job 5. I [08/Jun/2005:14:55:51 -0700] Started filter /usr/lib/cups/filter/foomatic-rip (PID 4077) for job 5. I [08/Jun/2005:14:55:51 -0700] Started backend /usr/lib/cups/backend/smb (PID 4078) for job 5. E [08/Jun/2005:14:55:52 -0700] PID 4077 stopped with status 1! I [08/Jun/2005:14:55:52 -0700] Hint: Try setting the LogLevel to "debug" to find out more. But there's more, I checked my foomatic debug log and I find this error message: Current allocation mode is local Last OS error: 32 ESP Ghostscript 7.07.1: Unrecoverable error, exit code 1 renderer return value: 127 renderer received signal: 127 Process dying with "The renderer command line returned an unrecognized error code 127.", exit stat: 1 error: Inappropriate ioctl for device (25) The renderer command line returned an unrecognized error code 127. tail process done writing data to STDOUT KID4 finished KID3 exited with status 1 Renderer exit stat: 1 Renderer process finished Killing process 4085 (KID3) Process dying with "Error closing renderer", exit stat: 1 error: Illegal seek (29) Any Ideas? If I can't solve this i'll probably have to ditch linux. |
I'm not sure if this could be part of it, but I read somewhere that the fact that I have a HP Deskjet 722C makes it incompatible with debian, is this true?

i don't know those error codes so this might not be it -- i had to do a strange thing to get hp printer connected to win 2000 to work from linux cups/samba
took me forever to figure it out so try this in windows you know settings->printers right click options then on the ports tab uncheck "Enable bidirectional support" |
No such option under ports for me, might be printer specific.
