Unhappy cups compliation/configuration

Hi folks! Iīve got a serious problem here. In order to make a linux printer server (without a graphical interface) I tried hard to compile the latest versions of cups software. Letīs take the 1.1.19 for example. Iīve compiled this version and the installation worked just fine! Iīve set all the parameters for a good printing like adding a printer, get the appropriate ppd file, make the printer default, enabling the printer etc... But when I send a job thereīs no response from the printer. Iīve checked the debug options and apparently no error messages appear.
It also didnīt work with any other versions of cups except the 1.1.12 (which I have at home and worked just fine but couldnīt compile on this server).

Please help me if anybody can.

Thanks anyway!

PS: A friend of mine had exactly the same problem. Weīre running the slackware distribution.

you can check with

from a terminal window. you can run lpd from the prompt.

i think apsfilter says it only works with local printers in
linux, so as long as you have the printer hooked to the
machine you are using for the print server, you should be
fine.
