cups & compaq printer

Hi all. I have just installed CUPS. I have a compaq ij300 printer (sucks, i know, but it's all i got), and it doesn't look like there's a driver for that in cups. Is there any way around this?

All I can find are rpm's for cups-drivers-compaq... I need the freak'n sources i guess, Anybody got a good site for me?

yeah, so linuxprinting.org says the compaq ij300 is a "paper weight" :-(

Anywase, it says to try the lexmark z11 driver. I did the "make ppd" for that, and copied it to /etc/cups/ppd, but when i use this command:

lpadmin -p compaq -E -v parallel:/dev/lp1 -m lexmarkz11.ppd

I get this:

lpadmin: add-printer failed: client-error-not-possible

I am wondering two things: Is there a command I must type to build lexmarkz11.ppd into the cups system? I searched for this, but I can't find any.

Also, Is there a way to verify if my parrallel port is working? I enabled it in the kernel, but I wonder if there is a way to verify it's working?

Any help would be great.

Thanks in advance

lpadmin: add-printer failed: client-error-not-found
bash-2.05a# lpadmin -p lexmark -E -v parallel:/dev/lp0 -P lexmarkz11.ppd
