I can't get crontab to work. (call it cron , cronning, whatever, i still can't make it work. )
Details:
I know correct syntax(min, hour, date, month, day of week, user, command)
but I still can't make it work. There is a crontab file, but no crontab file for root or penguin (my login). How do I make one and where do I put it?
Ok, and what about cron.weekly et al? do I save my commands in there or just in the crontab file?
my books are very vague and I can't understand them. googling doesn't help me understand what's wrong.
I create the cron's with root, for any user:
crontab -e username (or root)
And simply add the syntax et al (it's vi) save and exit.
cron.weekly is root's crons:
crontab -l root
You can add applications in the respective directory if you would like, I have one in cron.hourly to restore sound levels for ALSA, it works great.
