Cron will not start back up after stop

So I have a script that does either of two things. Both have the same results.

The first way was to call /etc/init.d/cron stop from within the script it's self and then sleep 3 and then /etc/init.d/cron start.

It will kill cron just fine, but it doesn't restart cron.

So, I tried a at job using a file for the commands. Same commands, same result.

So why is vixie cron not restarting successfully? When I go in and do it by hand, starts right up no issue, but it seems like when it's in the script, the script just kills it and then it's dead too.

Any help with this? Anyone?

Have a look in the system logs, see if there are any messages that help diagnose the problem.

Did that. /var/adm/messages doesn't show any errors. I see the manual startup's and the executions, but nothing complaining.

Please post your script and copy-paste the output when you run it?
What distro are you using?
Are there any messages in /var/log/syslog?
