Creating RPM that installs Icon into Gnome Application Browser

I am creating a few proprietary RPMs for a client which uses SLED10 with a Gnome Desktop (soon SLED10sp1) I believe SLED10 is the same as SuSE10.1

So far everything is working perfectly, the only problem is that I can not get the Icons to appear in the Gnome Application browser. I have created DESKTOP files in the following directories but still nothing.

/usr/share/applications/myprogram.desktop
/opt/gnome/share/applications/myprogram.desktop
/opt/kde3/share/applications/kde/myprogram.desktop

What am I missing?

Thanks
Bob

Can you post an example of your *.desktop files.

The desktop file is a very basic one.

[Desktop Entry]
Version=1.0
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=LDAP Browser
Type=Application
Exec=ldapbrowser
TryExec=
Icon=/opt/gnome/share/pixmaps/gataxx.png
X-GNOME-DocPath=
Terminal=false
GenericName=LDAP Browser
Comment=LDAP Browser

You need to add a category section in your file. If you take a look at the *.desktop files in /usr/share/applications, they all have a category section which determines where in the menu the item will be placed.

Thanks!

That was it exactly!

I also found that I only needed to place the desktop file in /usr/share/applications/
not it the /opt/gnome/share/applications/ or /opt/kde3/share/applications/kde/
