i have a production server running RHEL 4.0 with 2x146 GB on a RAID 1 with OS and another storage with 2x300 GB on a RAID 1 with the application, it's the database and application.
No LVM was installing and configured before, and now the second array with mirror of 300 GB is running out of disk.
1. i have 2 new hdd to build another mirror 2 x 300GB.
The question is, how can i create a LVM to star using the vgextend anytime i need it?
You cannot change a live disk to LVM because you have to install(format) the file system on top of LVM.
Add additional (new) raid set, make a LVM partition, format filesystem.
Migrate data from old raid set to new filesystem.
Verify that it works on new file system
Change partition on old raid set to LVM (will destroy all data!) and add to volume group, then extend LV.
Hi Chrism01, tank you for your reply, was really helpful and now I'm completely clear.
The only problem now is to migrate data and make the system run without problem because as i said it's a production server. can you advise me any HowTo on data migration using LVM that i can read and try to solve my issue, because i need to have 100% sure migrations is going to work good.
If you need any details please feel free to ask me ok?
