creating desktop shortcuts
 
How do you create desktop shortcuts in Linux the way that you would in Windows! Stupid question, probably, but I just cant work out how to do it!!!

my vectorlinux came with fluxbox and rox-filer, rox-filer can make desktop shortcuts and u can add a specific icon to that shortcut. thats all the help i can give you, so google for rox-filer and i'm sure you will find it.

It depends on what desktop you are using. On KDE, you can drag and drop from the menu or right click on the desktop -> create new -> link to application. In GNOME you would do something similar to KDE.

Also you can drag and drop to your bottom or top panels, near the clocks and etc... I usually drag terminals and other useful aps to the panel.
