Creatiing Ubuntu Driver for Linksys WUSB300N Wireless Adapter Using Ndiswrapper

2014-11-09

I am attempting to create a driver for the Linksys WUSB300N wireless adapter in Ubutun 12.04, using ndiswarpper-1.59. Thus far I seem to have installed the driver netwm245 per ndisgtk but the hardware is not found.

When I inspect /etc/ndiswrapper/netmw245, I see the following files:
07D1:3B10.F.conf 07D1:3B11.F.conf netwm245.inf

Since lsusb revealed the adapter's vendor-product ID as 13B1:0029, I duplicated 07D1:3B10.F.conf as 13B1:0029 in order to provide a so-called correct .conf file. Ubuntu still failed to recognize the device even though ndisgtk subsequently showed that it (the hardware) was present. Configuring the wireless network with the correct SSID, device MAC, security key does not help. I think I am missing some files from /etc/ndsiwrapper/netwm245, such as a correct .conf and .sys file.

Any help will be much appreciated.

You can try with linux Mint that comes with ndiswraper pre-installed. Maybe yours is not installed properly.

Assuming ndiswrapper, ndiswrapper-comon, ndiswrapper-dkms, and ndiswrapper-utils-1.9 (4 packages) are installed properly you can use the command line to get it working assuming you have the correct firmware. To do so follow these instructions.
Make sure drivers are visible on the Dekstop
Code:
cd Desktop
sudo ndiswrapper -i xxxxxxxx.inf #replace xxxxxxxx.inf with the name of the .inf file on your desktop
ndiswrapper -l
sudo depmod -a
sudo modprobe ndiswrapper
sudo ndiswrapper -m
echo "ndiswrapper"|sudo tee -a /etc/modules
sudo shutdown -r now
Start your machine back up again and let us know how you go.

Hi, Everyone,

I apologize for posting my final report so late. Actually my ndiswrapper installation procedure was fine as the WUS300N worked on three of my four computers running Ubuntu 12.04 or Linux Mint 17. They happened to be located a short distabce from the router whereas the seemingly troublesome machine was more than 100 feet away. I was guilty of not being observant; it finally dawned on me that the adapter was already missing one of its two antennas when I bought it. Luckily the seller is an honest person and has promised to refund me.

By the way, I found that ndiswrapper was not installed in my copy. of Mint 17 even though ndisgtk was. So I just installed it from scratch (in a few minutes).

Thank you all very much for your help.
