I have "Feather Linux" installed on my Hard Drive and Firefox installed. Whenever I log out I have to create a profile in Firefox again. I clicked "Don't show me this again" but it still wants a profile created each time. Is there a fix for this? Thanks.
Are you running Firefox from a shortcut, or panel, or menu entry? Check the properties of said shortcut and look at the command that is run; if it is /path/to/firefox --profile-manager, then the profile manager will start when you click the entry, whatever you've said in terms of "Dont ask at startup".
Remove the switch (--profile-manager), and it should work normally, if that's your problem. Hope this helps.
I'm running Firefox from a shortcut. In "FeatherLinux" there's no right click on the shortcut icon so I can't change permissions or find out what the "execute" command is. It downloads and sets itself up(Firefox). Pretty cool actually except for this "profile" problem. I get it to work by "choosing folder" knoppix and putting my name in place of "default user". /home/knoppix/ray, then start. Maybe a "bypass profile"?
You can try changing the link on the desktop to "sudo firefox" by editing /home/knoppix/.xtdesktop/firefox.lnk. That might do it, or if not then try changing the ownership of the /home/knoppix/firefox directory to knoppix.
.
At least now you know where the command is configured from, so you know how to check that. This answer indicates that there's some kind of permissions issue at stake, but I don't know anything about how Feather sets this up, so I'd go with the advice from a Feather user and see how far it takes you.
I found the script that launches Firefox w/o the profile, "/home/knoppix/firefox/firefox". Now if I knew how to link it to the icon I'd have it made. Thanks for the reply. "sudo firefox" get's bad command error. I also found "profile.xpt" under /home/knoppix/firefox/components".
The icon for firefox is normally found in /path_to/firefox/icons. However, this may be the old Mozilla icon. You can check in /usr/share/pixmaps to see if the nice new icon was installed there. If not, and you want the nice, new icon, you can go to http://iconpacks.mozdev.org/ and take your pick.
According to the XtDesk README,
Quote:
Coonfig files:
~/.xtdeskrc - main config ~/.xtdesktop/* - icon descriptions Look xtdeskrc É xtdesktop/* in distribution directory for examples.
So I did that, and here's the text of "mozilla.lnk":
Quote:
table Icon
Type: Program
Caption: Mozilla
Command: mozilla Icon: /home/dima/.xtdesktop/mozilla.gif
X: 94
Y: 580
MenuCommand1: News - Lenta/Lenty : /home/dima/.mozilla/news.sh
MenuCommand2: Linux news - Lrn/Lor : /home/dima/.mozilla/lin.sh
MenuCommand3: Tech news - clenta : /home/dima/.mozilla/tech.sh
MenuCommand4: Mail - hotmail.com : /home/dima/.mozilla/hmail.sh
MenuCommand5: Mail - myrealbox.com : /home/dima/.mozilla/mrbox.sh
MenuCommand6: Mail - newmail.ru : /home/dima/.mozilla/nmail.sh
end
So it would seem that all you need do is edit the path to the icon in the .lnk file you're using to change the icon. You could also change the command to point to the command you're now using, obviously, if you haven't already.
