Crash and Firefox bookmark loss

Recently I just downloaded Savage, a multi-player fps that is free for Linux. Well after running it my system froze and I wasn't able to do a proper shutdown. Well, Firefox was running and long behold next time I run Firefox my bookmarks are deleted and the theme doesn't appear any more.

Is there any way to get my bookmarks back?

If not, then what can I do to prevent this in the future if my system crashes with Firefox open? Other than exporting my bookmarks all the time.

In your home directory, you should have a hidden folder called .mozilla/firefox/ in there should be a folder called <random characters>.default and in there you should see bookmarks.html (current bookmarks) and bookmarks.bak (backup copy).

Rename bookmarks.html to bookmarks.old and bookmarks.bak to bookmarks.html and restart Firefox.

I use FEBE for automated nightly backups of my Firefox profile, it's very good.
