Crappy 2.4.20-13 RH kernel upgrade? (freeze while burning CDs)

Hi all... I have installed the new kernel upgrade from Red Hat (2.4.20-13.9) for Red Hat 9, everything (ok almost, keep reading) works fine in the computer... except one little annoying, irritating thing...

Whenever I try to burn a CD (whether it is via Gtoaster or XCDRoast) the process is started OK, but by the time the disk is being fixed the computer (the whole system) freezes!! hard reboot required. Odd thing here is that apparently the CD burnt correctly so I can check it out when I reboot. This problem only started to happen when I upgreded to this kernel revision. Could it be my cdrecord (CDRTools) package being conflicting?

Note: In order to be able to burn as a regular user I used the version of XCDRoast provided in their project's page (along with the CDRtools). Also to be able to use gtoaster as user I use the bianry gtoaster-root rahter than the PAM linked one gtoaster. I've tried to burn as root (pure root, startin the session and all) to no avail.

May be I will have to upgrade CDRtools?

Thanks for any info here.

sure...that would be my first step to troubleshoot this. And possibly uninstall/reinstall your app rpms.
