cpio: bad magic when trying to install RH9

While trying to install RH9, on a Sony Vaio, that used to be a dual boot with xp and RH9, I keep getting this error when Anaconda tries to run:

I see several lines of "error 2 reading header: cpio: bad magic.

Then says:

Running Anaconda Red hat Linux System Installer, Please wait...
Install exited abnormally -- recieved singal 11

Then it goes througha shutdown cycle.
Any ideas what could be wrong? This disks I'm using, I've used before with no problem,a nd I've reformmated the disk to ensure it wasn't caused by the previous install

Thank you in advance.

if it's messing up in the same place every time, either
the disk is scratched, or the laser is is a little dirty. more
likely the disk

Well apperently it was the disk, however, I've inspected it carefully there's not the slightest physcial abnormality on the data side, also I had to the very same disc only momentsa before, where I was also installing it on a different box.

Fowever, I tried my back up disc, and it went through just fine, very very odd.
