counter strike Help on slackware 10????

I can not seem to get counter strike working on my laptop. I have counter strike on a cd but it's an older version just to drag over to the hard drive there is no setup and play during lan partys but i have tried to play it on slackware 10. I have winex installed but when i try to play the game to run it it gives me this error

root@slack_02:~#winex -workdir "~/.transgaming/c_drive/cs"
"C:/cs/cstrike.exe" -console -game cstrike
/usr/bin/winex: line 164: cd: ~/.transgaming/c_drive/cs: No such file or directory
wine: lstat /root/.transgaming/wineserver-slack_02/socket : No such file or directory
even though that directory is there.
I then tried to use a retail version condition zero
I logged into root and mount /mnt/cdrom
then winex /mnt/cdrom/setup.exe it gave me wine: lstat /root/.transgaming/wineserver-slack_02/socket : No such file or directory and next it tried the other setup up file winex /mnt/cdrom/czero_setup.exe it gave me the exact same error

please help anybody I need this to work really bad because i'm never going back to any MS operating system.

I haven't tried to play CS in Linux, (only some Windows strategy games), but do you think it will be possible to play over a LAN? Is this Windows specific? I think no. Also delta_simon how much fps do you achieved with Crossover and what kinda PC. I'm asking to see if I will achieve playable framerate on my PC .

fps is frames per second. It means how fast your computer is able to redraw the contents of the screen. More fps - more playable game. I think lower than 15 fps is unplayable, but some will say that even 50 are not enough. This game is old and in windows a friend is playing day and night CS with a Pentium II 266 MHz/Voodoo2. So I hope it will give me enough fps on a Pentium 4 wth Crossover ot Wine.

FragCow I'm sorry but I haven't heared this games (I'm not very big gamer), but I think CS is known to work with wine and also winex(isn't it called Cedega now?)

Are we talking about the same CS? I am talking about CS 1.5, not 1.6, nor Source.

Drop Counter-Strike and go for Wolfenstein : Enemy Territory with the TC:Elite-mod, which has many resemblances with Counter Strike. Download the mod from here : http://www.truecombat.com/intro.php?x=d

16 MB should be enough for CS. It's perfectly enough for the textures I think.

Wolfenstein works in Linux?

I would remember that my video adapter didnīt support anything else than software acceleration. Like I said
it did obviously run with a low fps.
