counter-strike and other opengl games under wine
alright. i just cant seem to figure out where to find the best *FREE* version of wine, and all the files i need to get cs, dod, etc.. working properly under wine. ive been to many websites regarding the situation, but they are all very confusing. if someone could direct me to a step-by-step tutorial or could instruct me step-by-step themselves, it would be much appreciated.

just get winex, it's free for the cvs version and I think someone made an rpm of the free version too
and if u are using a NVIDIA or ATI card you should dl the drivers for those because they help a lot. |
do you know where i could find the free version? or if anyone has a subscription to transgaming i would like to let me login for like a minute and dl winex, that would be MUCH apprecitated.

counter-strike runs fine with the regular free version of wine that comes from www.winehq.com
|
then there must be some settings im forgetting to enable/disable.
because mine doesnt work. |
ok d00d your going to have to elaborate..your what doesn't work, enable disable what in what program. these questions could be directed to both wine and/or counter-strike.

...
i mean that; you claim it works fine, but it( COUNTER STIRKE UNDER WINE) doesn't work for me. so there must be settings you tweaked or something to get it to work. i can get it to open, and i can browse servers. but thats it. plus, i want it to run in OPENGL mode, not sofware mode. any other details you need just ask. |
well first i actually did NOTHING special to get it to work, it was actually just as simple as installing wine, setting it up, and then popping in the half-life cd and then installing the hl and cs updates.....as of the opengl, if your video card supports 3d accel, then your going to have to get the drivers to enable it.
i have no idea if this will be of any use to you, but here is the halflife howto for wine. http://lhl.linuxgames.com/howto/half...HOWTO-0.5.html |
hmm...i guess i'll give it a try. doubt it'll work though.
