Question Could there be a substitute of VB in RH Linux

Before I was introduced to Linux, I was using ms visual basic for my programming and it seems that I can't get away from using VB. Is there a language in Linux which could take the place of VB so that I will not be migrating to windows when coding? I realy want to stick with Linux so im looking for an application that feels like ms visual basic.

Thanks....

Sincerely;
Ian Ace

the only clone i'm aware of is http://www.gnome.org/projects/gb/ but why not do yourself a favour and pick up a real scripting langauge like python or perl? it can't be *that* hard to get away from vb!

There is also Phoenix. It is very close to VB, but is subtley different. There is also something called XBasic by Max Reason. I found this to be quite different, but it is platform independant since it doesn't rely on anyone else's libraries.

Good luck.

I am a skilled VB programmer and I have also started the migration over to Linux, so I know what you're talking about. I think the sad truth is that Linux isn't going to be a good enough replacement for Windows for a while, so it's best not to try and break yourself off from Windows while you can still do something useful with it.

I have to agree with acid_kewpie. You should try learning another language. I taught myself PHP from web resources and from a really good book that I bought called PHP and MySQL Web Development. Linux is a really great platform for developing and testing these two technologies. Why don't you give them a try?
