Question Could someone direct me to a Newbie Friendly Apache Server installation page?

Hi, Linux NewB here. I used to run a server on my WindBlows installation, but I would like to convert completely over to Linux. I am running Mandrake Community 10.0 on my Athlon T-Bred 1.33 w/ ADSL (1.5M down/512K up).

I am sufficienly new to Linux to qualify for 'superNewB' status (laugh), but as this website was my WIFE'S, and I would like to convince her that changing to Linux will not affect her website downtime (despite less than 10 hits a day).

So if someone would be so kind as to send me to a website that shows Newbies how to set up an Apache web server I would be forever grateful.

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,

Mike

You should just be able to install apache (and php/ mysql if you want) right out of the box with your Mandrake CDs, there should be packages for it all. You might have to make minor changes to the config files (httpd.conf and php.ini, unless they're called something different on Mandrake), start the apache server and you're away. You don't really need to use a precanned solution like you would on Windows.

For apache 1.3:
http://httpd.apache.org/docs/

For apache 2:
http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/

These look like some pretty good pages, so they should have everything you need.
