Gftp is a good one. It may be on your distribution disks. I would need to know what Distribution you have. If not you can download it at http://gftp.seul.org/

They have documentation on how to install and set up on their site.

Yeah basically if you install Gnome with any distro, your going to have gftp installed as well. I have yet really seen a distro without it, unless during the install you specify not to.

dkc_ace 01-04-2003 06:38 PM

its RedHat 8.0

gntlmn 01-04-2003 07:56 PM

It should already be installed if you set up gnome. then use the RPM manager to install it .

well im on kde. Is there a gui ftp version for linux redhat8 that is stable and is easy to use and setup and has some half way decent features.

stickman 01-04-2003 10:08 PM

I like using lftp. It supports a variety of protocols such as FTPS and HTTPS, and it has some neat features such as mirroring, job queueing, connection throttling, etc.

KFTP and KBear are both decent Apps

These were client apps that I gave you.

I would like to ask a question cause I am getting confused.
1. Do you want to host an FTP site so people can log in and download items from your computer?
2. Do you want to login to an FTP site someone else set up and download items from the other persons computer to your computer?

Thank you

yea thats what im trying to setup right now. :)

what is the diffrence in the FTP server that comes with redhat8.0 and proftp?

gntlmn 01-07-2003 10:52 PM

I agree ProFTPd is easier to setup. Once setup there really is no difference once you figure out the system. I do suggest that server for you
