Coreboot for Gateway ewssential 550
I want to know if coreboot is an better opensource alternative to the BIOS on a Gateway Essential 550 with 320 MB of RAM. It is currently running Lubuntu oneiric. Any better alternatives if possible?
Any reason you want to attempt such a thing?
This even assumes you have an electrically erasable chip.
It would be a gamble in any case. If it did work you might gain some features but you might loose some too. Unless this computer can be thrown away I doubt you should attempt it. The idea of open bios has been out there for decades. Not really popular.
