CORBA Configuration error -- gotta be a better way

When I open Evolution all of a sudden I can't open any gnome app without getting complaints about CORBA and unable to load configuration information.

If I killall gconfd-1 and restart the troubled gnome app it works fine. Any idea what is causing this? to killall gcond-1 just because evolution is running seems silly and annoying.
