Copy files from Windows to Samba

Is there an easy way to copy files from a Windows file server to a Samba file server while retaining all of the old file permissions? I have Samba set up as a member of my Active Directory domain and am using winbind so that the Samba box recognizes AD user accounts.

So, the Samba server accepts windows accounts with no problems. I am just looking for an easy way to copy files and permissions from Windows to Samba. I imagine it is going to require a smb.conf configuration that I perhaps have not thought of yet.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

when you copy files you lose permissions. the files should inherit the permissions of the parent directory.

this is the same for both *nix and windows as far as i know.

now you could use winSCP or some other such program to move the files from one system to an other and at that point set the permisions for the files as you move them around.

dont think that really is what you were looking for though.

Ok, thanks for the info. I don't have alot of files to move, so I can just copy them over and reset the permissions by hand, won't take me that long.

Thanks.
